I was actually planning to straight up gift you this one whenever I got around to finishing it! I imagine it will be a 2-3k type oneshot when it’s finished (unless I get carried away), basically I wanted to explore how I picture their relationship directly after defeating the singularity together. it’s a getting together fic, atsushi pov, and it’s making me feel all soft just thinking abt it LMAO

here’s the summary:

In the aftermath of, well, everything, Atsushi is horrified to find that he no longer hates Akutugawa. Like, at all. 

and a snippet of dialogue bc I’m so niceys to you:

“Why did you hesitate?”  “Are you serious? How was any of what we just did hesitating–” “No, you absolute fool. I mean earlier, when you fought me. You could’ve won, you had a clear shot, but you didn’t take it. Why?”  “...I didn’t realize you remembered any of that.”

for the one where they try to set up skk:

this one would definitely be chaptered, and I actually have the whole thing fully outlined and it’s way more detailed than I remebered making it lolll

it’s in a sort step by step guide type structure, currently titled something along the lines of “atsushi’s harrowing step by step struggle of trying to get his mentor back with his (more or less out of his league and also vaguely terrifying) ex boyfriend”

the concept is mostly crack and humor w some character study mixed in, and despite the premise it’s much more shin soukoku than soukoku focused 🙏 skk is mostly the plot device here and also I wanted sskk to clown on them

here’s the summary:

Dazai’s birthday is coming up, which Atsushi only found out by asking Ranpo mind you, and he really wants to do something nice for his mentor (despite how insufferable he can be). The only problem is that everytime anyone from the ADA actually tries to do something nice for Dazai, or even compliment him, he gets this really strange blank look on his face before either turning around and walking away or just fully ignoring that the gesture even happened. Atsushi is determined though, so he decides he needs to take the indirect approach, and forms a temporary alliance with Akutugawa to help Dazai get back together with his ex from the port mafia that he’s so clearly not over. This… goes about as well as one might expect it too.  Or, the one where Atsushi and Akutagawa, in an attempt to matchmake their emotionally constipated mentors, accidentally matchmake themselves (instead). 

and since the summary is lengthy as it is I technically don’t need to give u a snippet but I will anyway bc I know u are desperate 🫶

Kyouka does a single blink, and then says something even worse, somehow. “Is this about Akutagawa-san?”  “What?” Atsushi nearly pinwheels backwards before he manages to reign himself in (with Kunikida sending him a dirty look), because how did she know? Not that– well yes he was technically thinking about Akutagawa, but it was purely for practical reasons! If he was going to set Dazai up with someone from the port mafia, then he was going to need someone from the port mafia. And it just so happened that Akutagawa was who he most comf– ah, the only person he could feasibly reach out to. Really, Akutagawa was Atsushi’s only option. That was the only reason he was thinking about him at the moment.  

okay I hope that satisfies you for now bc I have no earthly clue when these will actually be out. mwah 🫶🫶

megumi writes the most romantic long love letters that sound like actual poetry. yuuji isnt much of a writer—his version of love letters are decorating the photos he takes of him, or annotating megumi’s favourite books etc

they watch Everything together. megumi sits through yuuji’s bad movies for him. yuuji watches megumi’s guilty pleasures and never makes fun of him for it. true love

i mean. it was a life or death situation there. i think yuuji thought megumi to he really cool and smart, and megumi thought yuuji to be incredibly reckless but brave at the same time :)

probably something simple on school grounds. maybe staying in and just resting for once. yuuji might cook a nice meal he knows megumi likes. they get each other small gifts (matching keychains would be so cute) and just appreciate a slow day together!

mmm i think yuuji would wish that megumi would ask for help more instead of trying to do everything alone, and megumi would want yuuji to stop shouldering all his burden by himself

backpedaled to rewatch the untold origins bit (skipped it bc i was impatient and wanted to watch sskk vs. fukuchi round2, only to discover that the dash catfished me. honk my clown nose) and i'm CRYING literally rampo's autistic swag is off the charts i love it when media nails that autism representation. the blurting out random observations that he probably should've kept to himself, and then not getting why people get upset with him afterwards? perfection. the unsolicited word dumping about stuff that isn't his business? very embarrassing and very relatable.

it also just makes rampo's experiences with the ADA even more touching than before. because the ada members never talk down to him or anything. not only that but they support him in areas where he needs help (i.e. taking the train) not only That, but they actively create a space for him where his observational skills and deduction ability is needed. he's not a burden, he's not annoying, he's needed.

One of the reasons I love sskk is that you get the best of both worlds. One day I will analyse the way they are both mirrored versions of each other and the same and the next day I will clown them to hell and back because both are dumbasses (affectionate)

THAT IS SO TRUE. They are a full 360° ship where you just can't go wrong. They'll be unpacking their deepest fears and bringing out the darkest sides of their minds and hitting and hitting and hitting because they hate themselves so much that they can't help but wanting the person that is most similar to them dead and then right after they'd be like “this riding experience is terrible” and “want to get some tea or something” and “you don't shop normally in normal places!” and whatever delightful thing their inexperienced attempts at plotting in chapter 85 was. They're profound and silly at the same time and it's so amusing and it basically forces you to want to pinch and pull at them untill you've seen all the forms their interactions can take.

Random babbling incoming but like. Their apparent stupidity and simplicity is exactly as important as the narrative symbolism and depth of their connection, because that's what makes them human, and relatable. We CAN'T all be supergenius, and sskk are so so ///so/// flawed, and it's so beautiful in its own way!!! Because humans are flawed, and it makes them feel all the more realistic and easy to sympathize with. And - crazy enough, listen to me carefully here - this duality of depth and simplicity is itself yet another side to the way the two mirror each other. Where Atsushi is always dwelling on his past and overthinking his actions, Akutagawa holds a way more simple, straightforward mindset: he's the “what a foolish question” and he's the “I don't need words, only actions”. I think they really work perfectly together, because Akutagawa often comes as someone who can help ground Atsushi from the ghosts that surround him, make him understand that the past is gone and what matters is here and now (see chapter 35 “The words of your past are fundamentally unrelated to who you are now”). Relating such concept, it's now been more than a month but I haven't been able to stop thinking about this reply from a fic author- quoting it directly because I wouldn't be able to explain it any better. (Please, make sure to read their works if you have the chance, they're incredible)

one of my favorite parts of bsd is how it addresses that 1. your emotional realities are valid and should be lived out and 2. sometimes mental blocks are solved not by indulging in them but by a reality check. sometimes when a person says “it feels like i’m drowning in my emotions”, “learn to swim” is a correct response. it’s silly and funny, but it’s also true. akutagawa engages with a lot of atsushi’s emotional realities by directly telling him: you have to move on. not in a “get over it” dismissive way, but in a “that’s just what you have to do” way. it’s a reminder that things are not hopeless, and they could never be, and indulging such a notion is mighty silly.

That's exactly it. I've particularly been reflecting over the “learn to swim” figure because it's. so silly and at the same time so serious and important in the way it perfectly‚ flawlessly exemplifies this aspect of the sskk relationship and in what Atsushi and Akutagawa are so different. The way they can actually, realistically help each other overcome their insecurity and fears, the way they unintentionally yet perfectly push each other to be better people every day makes me insane.

i’ve slowly been getting my brother into bsd (we’re on s2) and after trying to explain kouyou for a bit (he likes kyouka too much to tolerate any mistreatment 😭 we are having the same issue with aku. letting him form his own opinions abt this is difficult. he says anything understandably negative and it’s -100hp) we got to the first mark appearance!!! everyone cheered!!!

INCREDIBLY BASED. My little brother was also like 'This (aku) is the clown you talk about every day?' until he got to the end of the Guild arc and also watched Dead Apple with me

Sometimes I forget how much I disliked Kouyou originally too until her backstory dropped ( Like chapter 27 of the manga I think ) and we got to see how much she did to ensure Kyouka's safety and happiness in the aftermath of the Guild arc ( like stealing the document about her from the SDUP and negotiating with Atsushi and Dazai )

I really like Kouyou.

I also think the anthologies, side stories, and Wan! lighten the mood regarding Kyouka's relationship with Kouyou and Akutagawa, so it makes sense that he's got a different perspective. Especially coming out of the Guild Arc--I feel like Cannibalism is when we all looked to Fyodor as the Big Bad and realized hey, maybe all these PM folk are fun and interesting too. Also, the first major SSKK working together event. People Died.

The lack of animosity ( between Kyouka and Akutagawa ) in DA really sold me on the fact that she understood him fully after their confrontation. It was also really vulnerable of Akutagawa to admit that to her??? My jaw was on the floor when i first read it. I don't think people recognize Akutagawa's almost suicidal tendencies ( because how could 'those who desire death have an equal desire to die' and him seeing himself in Kyouka who quite literally asks him to cut her down not imply that ) as much as they do the vengeance(BEAST)/survival(canon-'I must see others as worthless if I am to survive') aspect of his character.

I HOPE YOU'RE HAVING FUN WATCHING IT WITH HIM BTW. Isn't it so fun sharing your obsessions with your little sibling whenever I get into something I become so obnoxious about it I've spent hours lying on the floor in my brother's room while he plays FPS games just talking about my newest media fixation ( he does the same to me it's why I have extensive secondhand knowledge of the Ant Megacolony war currently going on in California that suffers 30 million casualties yearly )
